Have you calibrated Mach 3 yet?
With ballscrew lead errors or stepper/driver inaccuracies,
it's important to calibrate your machine so that Mach 3 actually moves an axis what it should.
We all know the formulas used to calculate Steps per for Motor Tuning.
motor steps/rev / microstepping X screw tpi = Steps Per
or
motor steps/rev / microstepping / screw pitch = Steps Per
Mine for example 200 / (1/2) /.200 = 2000 Steps Per inch
.0005 per step resolution

I checked a parallel with an indicator and to make sure the X axis DRO gave the actually length. (the Y was worse)
Guess what, no cigar. it was off .0015 in 6.0 inches.
Readjusted the Steps per by .5 and now it's within .0003.
That's less than the resolution for 1 step and i'll change back to 1/8 microstepping for better accuracy later.

Made an improved Mach axis calibration video using the Set Steps Per Unit button on the Settings page.
The genius of Artsoft thought of everything.
Eliminates the need for doing the math and editing the motor tuning.
Much more accurate too, I wouldn't have taken the steps to 10 decimal places but it does.

Would like to talk to someone who has implemented the MACH3 on a mill.
I have a candidate mill and would like some insight on the problems and issues.
The mill is vintage 1980, build like a brick outhouse.

Hoss thank you for all of the inspiration. :) I wanted to know if you have used the screw mapping feature in Mach3. I have not. I am in the middle of a conversion.
